Car Stereos: Install Headunit, dual xdmr7700, wire colors

Question
QUESTION: I Have a Dual xdmr7700 and i don't have the wire harness but I'm going to get it but i know how to hook it up except i got 6 extra wires that i don't know do i have to use them for it to work that not the antenna or the wire harness so can you help me

ANSWER: Hi Tyrone,

As long as all the power, ground and speaker wires are connected to the Dual head unit's outputs, then you don't have to worry too much about any extra wires that are in the factory radio plug.  OEM radios often have lots of extra connections that aren't required for the after-market head unit installation.  Some of the extra wires may be illumination wires, speed sensor wires (for OEM radios with speed-controlled volume), data wires, and so on.  Usually, they're not required for the new deck.

Using an adapter harness is a very good idea.  Just remember that if you have any extra wires and you're not sure what they are, you should leave them disconnected, and tape them off so they can't cause a short circuit.

Hope this helps!

QUESTION: ok thanks but i have one more question..... I Just wanna make sure when i get my wire harness it goes into that sqaure piece in the back of my radio?

Answer
It depends on what you bought.  Usually, when I talk about a wire harness, I mean a vehicle adapter: it fits the original factory radio plug in your vehicle, and then the other end is just bare wires.  Your Dual head unit should have come with its own wire plug, and that also has bare wires at the end.  You'd buy a wire harness to match your vehicle, then match the wire colors in the wire harness to the wire colors in the Dual deck plug.  Splice the wires together using crimp connectors, or solder, and you're ready to plug it into the car.

If you need a harness that fits the port on the back of your deck, you're really looking for a replacement wire plug.  The deck should have come with the part you need, so if you don't have it, you'll need to contact Dual for a replacement.
