Car Stereos: P3000IB Pioneer Head deck, amp output, head deck

Question
Hi there,
My brother has just installed for me this head deck as well as new front speakers and 6x9's in the back which are hooked up to an amp.. we have hooked it all up correctly but don't seem to be able to get the speakers to work. the amp is receiving power, and we tested the speakers on another stereo so know that they definitely work. was wondering if there may be some setting on the head deck or something that would be stopping this.. but i am not really enjoying not having back speakers that play my music..

any ideas?

thanx Renee

Answer
Hi Renee,

Are you getting no sound out of the rear speakers at all, or are they just playing deep bass notes?  If they're just playing the bass, it might sound like they're not working when you're listening from the front seat.

If the speakers are playing bass, then you'll probably need to switch the pre-amp output to full-range.  Your deck has a selectable rear pre-out: that means it can be used for subwoofer amp, or a full-range amp.  It might be set for a sub amp right now: that would just send bass to your amplifier, and if you have the subwoofer setting on your deck switched to "off", then it won't send any sound to the amp at all.  To change it:

1.  Press and hold the Source button until the deck turns off.
2.  Press and hold the multi-control (volume knob) until the settings menu comes up.
3.  Turn the multi-control until you see SW CONTROL on the display, then press it.
4.  You should see REAR SP or PREOUT in the display.  Both of these should be set to "FULL".  Press the multi-control to switch between REAR SP and PREOUT, and turn the multi-control to change the setting of each if needed.
5.  When you're done, press the source button again to turn the unit on.

If you're certain that the preout setting is on "full", and you're still not getting any sound, then there must be some other problem with the amplifier, speakers, or deck.  I'm guessing that the preout setting is the source of your problem, though; I'm pretty sure it's set to "sub" by default.

Hope this helps!
