Car Stereos: installing amp and speakers, alpine car stereo, power antenna

Question
what color is the remote wire on an alpine car stereo?

Answer
Joe, Alpines have a blue wire or a blue/white wire that they designate for power antenna and remote.  They tell you to use one of these two to switch an amp on and off with the radio.  The problem is that they do not fuse or protect that wire.  If there is some short between the remote wire and your amp, you will blow the radio.  It will have to be removed and repaired at an electronics shop.  I always recommend to wire the switched amp wire to the same wire that switches on your radio.  That would be the yellow or orange wire going to your radio.  So, when the key is turned on, the radio and amp both receive switched power to turn on, and if there is ever a short between that wire and your amp, you will just blow a fuse, and nothing gets ruined.  Hope this helps, Scott
