Car Stereos: Auxillary input problems, auxiliary source, pre amp

Question
I installed a Blaukpaunt deck into my boat and the deck works fine. I added RCA auxillary wires with a jack so I could play my ipod using the auxillary function on the deck. Now when its on auxillary mode and I turn the volume up on the ipod with the volume on the deck at any level the deck turns off and on until I hit pause on the ipod then it quits the annoying cycle. Is it a wiring problem or does the deck have its own issues?

Answer
Hi Brett,

If you can provide the model number of your Blaupunkt head unit, I might have a better answer; but for now I'd check to see if your iPod is connected to a true auxiliary input, and not an output.  Most of the RCA connections at the back of the head unit are for pre-amp outputs, and some Blaupunkt models require an extra adapter if you want to connect an auxiliary source.  If you have your iPod connected to one of the outputs, that might cause the problem you're describing.

If you're certain that the auxiliary cable is attached to the correct auxiliary input; and if you're not having any problems with the tuner or CD functions of the head unit, then I'd suspect an internal defect in the head unit.

Hope this helps!
