Car Stereos: identify pins of Toyota JBL car stereo, toyota sequoia, jbl car

Question
Car Stereos: identify pins of Toyota JBL car stereo, toyota sequoia, jbl car
Toyota JBL back
I was given a Toyota JBL 6-CD changer that my friend pulled out from his Toyota Sequoia 2004 model. The car stereo with model no. 86120-08140, Serial no. 631227 and reference no. CQ-ES8061Z was manufactured in 2002 as written on its body. Please tell me what the two sockets (white and blue) are for and please help me identify which of the pins in the two sockets built-in at the back of the car stereo are for the power, ground, left and right speakers, etc. so that I can use it on my old reliable VW Beetle. The blue socket has 20 pins (10 pins on each row), while the white socket has 12 pins (7 pins in the lower row and 5 pins in the upper row). Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Hi,

The blue plug on your head unit appears to be the main power/output plug.  I don't have any definite information about the white plug; it may be used for external devices such as rear seat entertainment options.

Crutchfield Electronics is a well known online car audio retailer in the US, and they maintain a very comprehensive online support library.  I found a pin-out diagram for the 2004 Sequoia on the Crutchfield site.  You'll find it by clicking the top link in the page I've linked below.  Note that the diagram on this page is for the plug that fits the socket on your radio--you'll need to turn it around as if you're looking at the back of the plug, to get the correct pin positions.

The bad news is that because your Sequoia radio came from a vehicle equipped with a JBL audio system, the head unit does not include a built-in amplifier.  The JBL Sequoia includes separate amplifiers for driving the speakers. The head unit alone cannot be connected directly to the speaker system. If you want to use this head unit in a vehicle that isn't equipped with JBL, you'll need to include a separate amplifier and use it with the head unit.

Hope this helps!
