Car Stereos: speakers quit working, 1998 ford escort, ford escort

My son just bought a 1998 Ford Escort.  The radio was working fine.  Then tonight we tried out the cd player in the trunk.  Once we did that the speakers quit working.  It shows that the cd is playing, but no sound comes out.  No when we put the radio back on we don't get any sound either.

Brenda,  That is not good.  First, I would check all the fuses and be sure all fuses are good.  Second, I would disconnect the battery, then reconnect it, so the radio will reset.  If the radio does not make any noise after that, the radio may have gotten shorted out by a wire going to the changer.  If that is the case, the radio will have to be removed and repaired.  Also, I would disconnect the changer from the radio, so it does not repeat the problem.  Hope this helps, Scott
