Car Stereos: 2001 chevy tahoe trying to put a cd player in it, gm suvs, chevy tahoe

Question
QUESTION: i can get the cd player to power up but it wont play sound can you help me ?

ANSWER: Matt,

I am sorry to say that GM SUVs from 1999 - 2003 or so, have very weak headunits.  They just do not hold up to normal usage.  There really is no cure for the problem.  My suggestion would be an aftermarket unit with all the features you are looking for.  If you want to keep an oem stereo in the truck, I would suggest using an older or newer model headunit which should last longer than yours has.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: im trying to put a aftermarket cd player in it not a stock one it will power up but wont play sound some one told me it has a factor amp is this ture if it dose how do i by pass it

Answer
Yes, it may have a factory amp, and you can buy an adaptor wiring harness that will bypass the amp.  I would recommend going to Crutchfield.com and typing in your make and model of car, and they will have the adaptor specifically made for your Tahoe.  Good Luck, and let me know how it goes, Scott
