Car Stereos: pioneer, usb port, mp 3 player, compatibility issues

Question
I just installed a new pioner deh-p5100ub head unit into my truck. Everything is fine except one thing, the usb port. When i plug it in im not getting any error signs, i read the manual on it, and it says nothing but pretty much plug it and play it, BUT its not playing anything. It just keeps sayin "format read". i dont know if this is how it is supposed to operate, like scanning all of the music or if there is something wrong. if it has to scan all of the songs its gonna b one long, boring ride.

Answer
Hi Shaun,

You don't say what type of device you're connecting to the head unit.  MP-3 player, iPod, portable hard drive, flash drive?  It's not unusual to see compatibility issues between a USB-equipped head unit and some USB devices.  Your best option might be to call Pioneer's tech support department directly; they can tell you whether your device will work properly with the head unit.  It's possible that it just needs to be formatted a different way.

Pioneer's consumer tech support number is (800) 421-1404; or you can search their FAQ and e-mail them through this page:

Good luck!
