Car Stereos: Cant remove head unit., sony decks, cadillac seville

Question
hey justin, i have an aftermarket sony cd/mp3 head unit, and i want to remove it so i can install the cables need to hook up my amplifier. The probly is i cant seem to get the thing out of my dash. The guy who installed it used a double din so the top is the head unit and the bottom is a storage area for cellphones, keys etc. The keys that came with the head unit wont slide into the slides, so i cant remove it. My car is a 1994 cadillac seville sts, so im thinking i might have to open up more of the dash to get at this thing? If you have any information on how i could do this, its giving me a head ache. Thanks

Answer
Hi Matt,

The keys should remove it, as single din Sony decks are usually just clip in when an aftermarket dash kit is used.

Remove the faceplate, and make sure you pop off the plastic trim ring first.  The keys should slide in on the sides of the deck, which should make it essentially just slide out.

If you put the keys in, but it still won't budge, you might have to remove the entire dash kit, as the installer may have screwed the deck into the sleeve.
