Car Stereos: factory system in 98 lincoln navigator, subwoofer enclosure, fuse box

Question
I have a 98 lincoln navigator with the factory audio system, it was working fine, then all the sudden the 8" subwoofer stoped working. I checked all the fuses, and took the sub to have it checked but it was fine. The rest of the speakers in the vehicle work, but I have no base. Any ideas what could cause this? thanks,Matt

Answer
Hi Matt,

It sounds as though the factory amplifier that drives the subwoofer has failed.  This is located right next to the subwoofer enclosure, but you'll probably have to remove the entire rear side interior panel to get to it.  The amplifier doesn't have a built-in fuse; if the fuse in the vehicle's fuse box is good, and the sub itself is good, then the problem comes down to the amplifier.

You can often find replacement amplifiers for these vehicles on eBay or various used parts vendors.

Hope this helps!
