Car Stereos: Alpine Amplifiers, alpine swe, alpine amp

Question
QUESTION: I just bought 4 infinity kappas 692.9i 6x9 speakers and 1-alpine SWE 1234 12" single coil 4ohm subwoofer. Will an Alpine MRPF-300 power all speakers and subwoofer or would a MRPF-600 work better or do I need both? if not, what Alpine amp/amps would you recommend? Thanks for your time.
-Rick

ANSWER: Rick, Good choices.  The MRP-F600 has too much power for your speakers.  I would suggest the MRP-F300 for your INfinity speakers.  It is almost perfectly matched for those speakers.  Then, you will need another amp for the subwoofer.  Since neither amp goes down to 1 channel, you will need another amp that goes down to 1 channel.  I would suggest the MRP-M500 which is a mono amplifier with just enough power for your sub.  This setup will give you all the power you will need and then some.  Expect a very loud system.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: Thanks Scott, I appreciated your timely response. Now what kind of deck would you recommend Make/model that is priced in the low to mid $200.00's that would work best? I would like to run my iPod and have it hd ready (I think). Thank you in advance "The Rookie"  Rick

Answer
Rick,  It sounds like you want good sound quality over anything else.  That is what I look for as well.  Hands down, Alpine has the best sounding headunits out there.  Their cheapest one sounds better than most others.  In one of my cars, I have an Alpine ida-x001.  It is perfect for my ipod, because it has the connection and the control built in.  They, of course, have stopped making that one, but they do carry an ida-x305 which looks to have all the same features as mine.  The downfall is that there is no cd player in this unit.  If you need a cd player, they do have a model cda-9886 with cd player and ipod control.  Both radios are expandable and a hd unit can be added.  Also, Alpine has a few sound processing units that just enhance the sound even more.  If no Alpine suits your taste, you be hard pressed to find anything under $300 made by anyone else.  If so, you may look at Kenwood or Clarion.  Both have a decent sound, but the cheap ones are pretty tinny sounding.  Let me know how it sounds when you're done. -Scott
