Car Stereos: RCA Output to AM Transmitter, rca outputs, rca output

Question
Hey there,
I've bought myself a head unit (Pioneer DEH-2050MPG) to go
in my 35 year old Mini. This car came with an AM Radio and
that's it. So I've also bought myself an AM Radio tuner
(similar to TuneCast or iTrip but for AM not FM) so I can
connect the head unit to the speaker in the AM radio
without trying to pull it apart or find a spot for the
speakers to go.

My question is- can I use the RCA outputs on the back of
the head unit to connect up to the AM transmitter and play
through the existing radio without having to amplify first?
And will this signal be the full signal or just bass (as it
would normally go to an subwoofer...).

Really appreciate your help.

Answer
Hi Paul,

I've never used an AM radio adapter, but I can't imagine it connects much differently than a typical FM transmitter.

You should be able to use the RCA outputs to supply a signal to your AM transmitter without a problem.  The signal going into the device does not need to be amplified.  The RCA outputs on your head unit are designated as "rear" outputs, which means they'll produce a full-range audio signal (not just bass) and will be affected by the fader control: if you adjust the fader toward the front, the RCA output signal will be reduced.

Hope this helps!
