Car Stereos: Infinity Amplifier, nightmare factory, factory stereo

I have a 04' Dodge Drang and the Amplifier has quit working. So trying to replace it, has been a nightmare. Factory vs. Afterimage which is better. I have been back to the dealership and ultrasounds store's and pretty much no one is being straight with me on the repair issue at hand.. Can you help me out.

There's two possibilities here.

#1: Replace the factory amplifier with another factory amplifier.  Pros: Easy, and quick installation.
Cons: Probably more expensive than aftermarket, despite not being as good sounding in the end.

#2: Replace the factory amplifier with an aftermarket one.
Pros: Sound better, probably cheaper.
Cons: Harder, longer, more expensive installation.

If you were OK with the quality of the factory stereo before it blew up, then I'd suggest visiting local wreckers and seeing if you can get your hands on a used factory amplifier, and replacing it.

If you weren't, see this as a chance to upgrade. :)
