Car Stereos: 1994 jeep grand cherokee cassette to cd desk install problem., jeep grand cherokee, grand cherokee

Question
I have a 1994 jeep grand Cherokee limited. It only had a
factory cassette player. I just installed a cd player.
However I can only get the radio output sound. the aux does
not have any out nor the cd player. I have looked around
but can only find were people are suggesting on cd to cd
installs. I"m assuming I have to double connect on a wire
or something of that nature but I'm out of ideas. any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Ricky,  Let me clarify my answer, before I get started.  I am assuming that you pulled out a headunit that had a radio and tape player, and you are installing a headunit with a radio and a cd player.  If the radio is working and the cd player is not, the problem is with the unit.  Either the cd is too scratched up, the laser lens is not clean, or the cd player is not working properly.  There are 2 ways the player could not be working properly.  First, you may not be switching it over to the cd player properly.  I do not see this as being a problem, but it has happened.  Second, the player may be broken somehow.  If the radio makes noise, then the cd player should work with the same wiring.  If the headunit is brand new, I would return it and get another one.  If it is a used OEM headunit, it may not have been able to play cds before you got it.  I would check with who sold it to you.  If this is unclear or there is something else I should know, let me know and I will answer again.  If my assumption of the headunit and the cd player being one unit is wrong, let me know, and I will rethink the problem for you.  Hope this helps, Scott
