Car Stereos: 3 kicker 15s single voice coil, ohm subs, ohm stable

Question
i have 3 kicker comps 15s single voice coil what amp would be the best to get to get the most out of them and how would i wire it up ?

Answer
Hi Steve,

With three single voice coil subs, about your only option is to wire them all in parallel. Follow this diagram:

Kicker makes the Comp subwoofer in an 8-ohm version or a 4-ohm version.  If you have the 4-ohm (most common) then wiring the three subs in parallel would result in a 1.33-ohm load at the amplifier.  Three 8-ohm subs would give you a 2.66-ohm load when wired in parallel.

If you have the 4-ohm Kicker Comp, then you'll need a mono amplifier that's stable with 1-ohm loads.  Looking at the subs' power rating, your best bet is to pick an amp rated between 500-800 watts RMS at 1 ohm.

A few amps that should work well:
Hifonics TXi-7508
Orion HCCA-D1200
Polk PA600.1
Pioneer PRS-D1200M

If you have the 8-ohm Kickers, then you'll want to look for a similar power range, but check the 2-ohm rating instead of the 1-ohm rating.  This will open the possibilities quite a bit, as there are many very good mono amplifiers that aren't 1-ohm stable but will work well with a 2.66 ohm load.

Hope this helps!
