Car Stereos: Pioneer AVIC-F900BT, 2003 chevy cavalier, pioneer avic

Question
Hi there,

I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier and I was looking to add this head unit to it. However, according to a lot of sites it says that it will not fit in my car? Is there any way to fit this unit it?

Answer
Hi Brett,

The only obstacle to fitting that head unit into a 2003 Cavalier is mounting depth. The radio cavity isn't quite deep enough to accommodate a typical after-market double-din head unit.  However, it's not hopeless; the rear of the radio cavity is plastic, and it can be cut out for more room.  Once this is done, you should be able to mount an AVIC-F900BT without too much trouble.  I'd recommend using a mounting kit made for double-DIN radios, like American International's GM-K422.

A word of caution: the instrument cluster in this vehicle is very sensitive to vibration.  If you leave it in place while working on the dash cavity, you might find that the backlighting behind the odometer or gauges has failed. It's a good idea to unscrew and remove the instrument cluster module before you start cutting dash plastic.

Hope this helps!
