Car Stereos: 2002 Dodge Ram radio, computer sense, proper signal

Question
I have a 2002 Dodge Ram with AM/FM/CD player that will come on, play for about 5 seconds and go off.  I can turn it off and back on again and the same thing happens.  I have tried a different radio and it still does it.  What could be causing this?

Answer
Debbie, That is too bad.  The newer dodges use a computer to run everything through.  You turn on your headlights, a signal goes to the computer that you want to turn on the headlights, then the computer turns your headlights on for you, very quickly, and hardly noticeable.  It does the same thing with the radio.  Your radio tells the computer that you want it turned on, and the computer supplies power to the radio for it to come on.  My guess is the computer is not receiving the proper signal or it is not sending the proper signal.  There could be a number of reasons why this is happening.  My guess is that there may be a short somewhere, and when your computer sense the short, it shuts the radio off.  Or, the computer may be just thinking it is getting that signal and shutting off the radio.  The best solution would be to take it to the dealer and have them diagnose it.  Hope this helps, Scott
