Car Stereos: 1993 Toyota Corolla Stereo Installation, toyota corolla, brand new car

Question
Hi,
I just bought a brand new car stereo to put in my 1993 Toyota Corolla. My dad and brother decided to install it for me, but after they got done, everytime I turned on my lights, the radio shut off. So of course I quickly turned my lights back off. All of the other wire connections seemed to be fine, so it was the "dimmer" one that wasn't. Do you know why this is? Please help.

Answer
Cara,  Most of the wire connections are pretty straight forward.  However, there are a couple of wires that are questionable as to what they are and what they do.  A couple of these wires are orange and blue.  Unfortunately, it is normally the blue wire that is miswired and it blows the radios amplifier.  If the orange wire is miswired, it normally blows a fuse.  You were quick to turn the lights off, so the fuse didn't have a chance to blow, but they probably hooked the car's dimmer wire to a remote power wire from the radio, causing 2 powered wires to be connected together.  Just unwire and cover the ends of each wire, and it should work just fine.  Hope this helps, Scott
