Auto body repair & detailing: 2012 Sonata trunk lid ding, thumb size, trunk lid

I borrowed my daughter's brandy new Sonata. Coming out of  a supermarket  today  I noticed a thumb size ding on the the top edge of the trunk lid centered in the middle of the lid. The ding also caused the paint within the ding to wrinkle. A wild guess would be that a shopping cart rolled into the back of her car. I'm afraid to show her the  damage without an estimate of what the repair will cost. HELP !!

Hi Lance!....From your description of the damage, as long as the size is contained just to the size of a thumb, past experience tells me that this should be about a 1.5 to 2.5 hour repair....As I had mentioned in previous comments, the door rate in my area is $ 75 Dollars an hour...So cost on the high side would be about $ 187.50 for body repair....For refinishing, being that the damage is centered in the middle of the trunk lid, and being the size that it is, there should be no need to blend and clear coat the 1/4 panels....That will definitly save you some money....Refinishing cost on average for a deck ( trunk ) lid, is about 3.0 hours including clear coat....Cost should be around $ 225 Dollars....So total cost should be around $ 412.50....Please remember, that this is just an estimate, as door rates and costs will vary from region to region, but it should give you a ball park idea of the cost....Drop me another line, if you have any further questions....Thanks....Dave
