Car Stereos: vr3 400 car stereo, car wires, antenna wire

Question
radio works but no sound --??? installing in a 1997 saturn used the adaptors

Answer
Ed,  your problem may be knowledge of radio.  Try playing a cd.  If the cd works, the antenna wire may not be attached snugly.  If the cd still does not make sound, there are more choices.  Sometimes, when installing a new radio, people unintentionally try and hook up the blue wire to a power supply, or they let the blue wire touch a grounding source.  Most times, this will short out the amp inside the radio, and it needs to be taken apart and repaired.  If you know for sure that the blue wire has been insulated and not messed with, then the problem could be the ground connection.  If the system used to work with an old radio, the chances are that the car wires are fine.  The trouble is usually the installation.  To troubleshoot, you can reinstall a previous radio temporarily.  If the old radio still works, then take your new radio to a local stereo shop and have it tested.  They will make sure that your new stereo still works properly.  If it is still good, then try the installation again.  I know it sounds like a lot of work, but it will get you more acquainted with your car and possibly your problem.  Hope this helps, Scott
