Car Stereos: car stereos, car stereo amplifier, subwoofer amp

Question
can i hook up a sub and amp to my stock stereo? i have an '04 envoy with a bose 6 disk cd player.

Answer
Hi Kevin,
YES!! absolutely.
There are a couple ways you can do this.
The easiest way is to purchase an amplifier that has "hi-level" inputs.  This means it can take it's audio input directly from the speaker outputs from your factory deck.
If your amplifier doesn't have hi-level inputs, then purchase a good quality adaptor. Hi/Low adapters are devices that installers use to convert a speaker level stereo to RCA levels so it can be hooked to an external car stereo amplifier. You can cut the speaker wires and hook the hi/lo adapter right up or you can tap onto existing speaker wires without cutting them so the speakers still play while the tap gives you a connection to the hi/lo device for adding something like a subwoofer amp to the existing speakers.(be careful of the quality of these... you can buy the really cheap ones and end up with gross levels of ground loop/engine noise.. Stinger makes a pretty good one, the part number is SHPLOC and runs about $30.)
Good luck!
