Car Stereos: Bose Speaker problem, radio unit, rx 8

Question
QUESTION: Hi
On my RX-8 (2004) when both the balance and fader is set to zero, i can hardly hear the front drivers side speaker and tweeter.  When i set the balance full drivers side, i hear nothing.
I have replaced both the speaker and amp but the problem is there
Any ideas
Thanks

ANSWER: Doros,

I would suspect a short in the wire.  If they are door speakers, the wires get worn from opening and closing the door many times.  I would suggest rerunning new wires from the amp to the speaker.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: Thanks Scott
How come though when i turn the balance all to the right speakers, they do not play at all!, NOTHING.
Is it possible that it is a fault of the balance knob?, though it seems that it works fine
PS
The car has only 19K kms and it had not had that much use
Thanks

ANSWER: Ok, the problem is definitely a short.  It has all the signs of being a short.  There are two things that may have the short.  Either the wire that I mentioned before, that goes to the speaker, or a short inside the radio itself.  With the mileage being so low, it is more likely in the radio.  Probably not in the balance knob, but more in the connector coming out of the rear of the unit.  It usually takes a professional to repair the unit, but the cost is fairly low if you remove the unit yourself.  Good Luck, Scott

QUESTION: Hi Scott and thanks for helping me out.
I would like to mention here that the radio unit was replaced (from a Jap specs to a UK specs)with another one and the problem was there also. The front face where all knobs are found, stayed the same!
Does this mean anything
I will check ofcourse the wires from radio to speaker
Thanks

Answer
Doros,

I tried my hardest to get some country specific specs to determine if there may be a wiring crossover.  Noone has a clue. ;-)  Anyways,  if the problem started after the radio switch, then it is most definitely the different specs between the two models.  I am sorry I could not find the info that would help, but I think you are definitely onto the problem now.  Good Luck, Scott
