Car Stereos: 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo remote start, jeep grand cherokee laredo, jeep grand cherokee

Question
QUESTION: The remote start stopped working on my jeep. I installed new batteries, but it still doesn't work.

ANSWER: Hi Debbie,

Can you please provide more information?

What's the brand and model of the remote start system?
Do you have one remote, or two?
Is there an LED light on the remote, and if so, does it light up when you press the button?
What exactly happens when you try to remote start the vehicle?
Does your remote start system also control your door locks?  If so, does that part of the system work?

Please follow up with as much detail as you can give me, and I'll do my best to assist you.

Thanks

Brian

QUESTION: Only 1 remote, doesn't control anything else. Led lights up but nothing happens when I push the start button. It's separate from the key. Don't know the brand or model.

Answer
Debbie,

Your best bet is probably to take it to a shop that installs remote start systems, and see if they can troubleshoot your system.  Without knowing the manufacturer, I can only guess.  However, I can give you a few possibilities.

If the remote has "start" and "stop" buttons, it might be a Bulldog system.  This is a very common "do-it-yourself" brand.  You can try re-training the remote to the system.  If you can find the "brain" of the remote start, it should have two large red wires plugged into it.  Unplug both these wires, wait one minute, then plug them back in. (Alternately, you can remove all the fuses, wait a minute, then replace them). Try using the transmitter.

There may be a safety switch preventing the remote start from activating.  Most remote starters come with a toggle switch inside the vehicle, and a pin switch or mercury switch under the hood.  If the under-hood switch is loose or damaged, it might be preventing remote start.  If there's a toggle switch inside the passenger compartment, it might have accidentally been pushed to the "off" position.

Good luck!

Brian
