Car Stereos: 1999 jeep no spark, car stereos, distributor cap

Question
i put a new coil on it and still no nothing but one day i try it and it fire up than shut off still no spark

Answer
Carl,

This does not have anything to do with car stereos, but I can help a little bit.  First, coils hardly ever go bad.  If the coil is not putting out a spark, there are two causes.  First, and probably your problem, the computer fails to signal the coil to spark.  The computer is bad and needs replaced.  Second, sometimes, but hardly ever, the distributor cap and rotor can be excessively worn and missing the spark.  You need to grab the wire that is coming out of the coil while you turn over the motor.  If it bites you, then there is spark.  Then, grab a sparkplug wire while turning over the motor.  If the sparkplug wire bites too, then spark may not be the problem.  If the wire coming out of the coil does not bite you while turning over the motor, then your computer is definitely at fault.  Some vehicles have the computers in bad spots and they overheat and die.  Hope this helps, Scott
