Car Stereos: CD Changer, source button, load button

Question
I have a 6-cd player/changer in my 2004 Malibu.  The other day my battery died and I had to get a jump.  It turned out that I needed a new battery.  After the new battery was installed, the cd player stopped working.

It has 6 cds in it, but it will give a message "No CD."  When I push the button to eject a cd, nothing happens.  Nothing happens when I push the load button either.  When I push the source button, it will indicate the CD player, but the CD is number 0!

When I open my car door, I can hear a noise like the CD changer makes when it changes from one CD to another, but the CD player does not work.  Nothing.  The radio works just fine.

I took the car back to the store where the battery was installed and had the guy disconnect the battery.  We waited 15 minutes so the system would clear. Then the guy hooked the battery back up.  Nothing.  Same problem.

I read somewhere that it might require resetting the code, but I see no way to enter any code and there is no information in the manual about entering any code.

The guy who changed the battery called a dealership and was told that their was some kind of wiring problem and I'd have to pay $50 just to check it out, but the system probably needs to be replaced.  I find that hard to believe since everything worked just fine until the battery was replaced.

Do you have any idea what the problem is?

Answer
Kait,

I, too, am a little new to this type of problem.  I have been getting more and more questions on this, and the answer seems to be the same most of the time.  It appears that most new manufacturers are putting theft protection on their radios.  Once power has been removed from the unit, it must be taken to the local dealer and have some code entered in either through the radio or the on-board computer.  Yes, it is a bummer when you get a dead battery or something, but I do not think they charge much to do the reactivation.  Hope this helps, Scott
