Car Stereos: new stereo + old turntable, audio signals, sound thanks

Question
QUESTION: We recently bought a Sony Mini Hi-fi Component System and tried to hook up our old turntable from our 70's era component system.  We bought the analog audio cable and connected it to the jack indicated (audio in).  We chose the audio in function.  No sound.  Is this even do-able?

ANSWER: Hi Laura.

You need to connect the cable on the audio out on the turntable, then connect the other lead to AUX channel on the new system. then switch to AUX function on the new component and that should do it.

Cheers.

Ed.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for your very quick reply, but let me elaborate.  The only thing coming out of the turntable (beside the electrical cord) is a 2-headed cable with a red and a yellow connector.  What goes into the new stereo is called "audio in" by them.  It is a jack on the front and the manual says it is where you connect any extra component.  We got an audio cable with the 2-headed yellow and red connectors and put them with the others ( red-to-red, etc)  The other end went into the "audio-in" jack.  it seems as though we have done everything, so I was kind of hoping you had a trouble-shooting theory about the lack of sound.  Thanks again.

Answer
the only thing i can tell you its to make sure that, the turntable its working properly and to make sure that the cable that comes out of the turntable its a signal output. other thing that comes into my mind its that, the cable that you got its red and yellow.

yellow its not longer used as audio its now changed for video, the wire must be designed to transfer audio signals.

Other then that, the way you have it wired seems to be right. there must be a problem either on the radio or on the turntable. but check for audio signals on the turntable.
