Car Stereos: What subs can i use with my amp?, alpine type x, signal to noise ratio

Question
I have a mmats D 1100.1 amp.
  Power                                                                         750 Wrms @ 1 ohms.
Frequency Response (-3db)    10 Hz to 230 Hz
Signal to Noise Ratio    -92db A weighted
Distortion @ Rated Output    < 0.1 THD+N
Damping Factor @ 100 Hz    > 125
Input Sensitivity    150mV to 2.5Vrms
Idle Current    1 amp
Efficiency @ full power    >70

I want to know what subs i can use with this amp. i want to get either an alpine type x or r 15in sub or 2 alpine type Rs. What would you suggest? and what would happen if i hooked a 2ohm sub up to my 1ohm amp?

Answer
Hi Colton,

With an amp like that, you have lots of options for subwoofers.. almost everything.  You can go too HIGH on resistance, you just can't go too low.

So with a 1ohm amplifier, you can put 2 ohm, 4 ohm, 8 ohm, whatever.  It's fine.  You just can't put a load of < 1ohm on it.

If you get a dual coil 4 ohm subwoofer, put them in parallel on the amp and you'll have 2 ohms.

Or a dual coil 2ohm subwoofer in parallel for 1 ohm.

Or you can just go with 2 4 ohm subwoofers wired in parallel on the amplifier.

Go with whatever you like; just make sure the overall resistance is equal to or higher than 1ohm, and you should be good.  Listen to lots of subs to find what you like that gives the right sound.
