Answer
Hi Charles,

A Cadillac Deville would normally have used a separate factory amplifier to run the speakers.  The amplifier is usually located in the trunk, under the liner on the right side.  If the original radio was removed, it's possible that the factory amp was also removed or bypassed.  In fact, it's also possible that the speakers were removed.

An after-market head unit could be connected to the speakers without the amplifier, but the factory system needs the amp to work properly.

Another possibility is that the original system was the premium "Bose"  package, and the new radio is not; or vice versa.  If the car was equipped with Bose, then you'd need the Bose head unit to work with the rest of the system; if it wasn't a Bose system originally, then a Bose head unit wouldn't work.   A dealer parts department, using the VIN number, can tell you more about the factory audio system.

Good luck
