Car Stereos: aftermarket stereo in a silverado, chevy silverado, factory radio

Question
I have an 03 chevy silverado with the Bose system . The factory radio  quit and after finding that a used replacement wont work, i bought an aftermarket unit off the shelf. The installation went fine. The new stereo worked for about 5 weeks then literaly smoked. Is there any kind of impedence problem with an aftermarket replacement stereo? The replacement has an output of 30 watts.

Answer
Hi Royce,

An aftermarket system shouldn't be an issue.  If it were impedance, and half decent aftermarket deck (heck, even the cheap ones) have a 'protection' mode they'd jump into to keep from that sort of thing happening.

And if you have a Bose system, then it should be using low voltage outputs to an amplifier anyway.
