Car Stereos: JBL amplifier keeps messing up, 4 ohms, internal speakers


Question
I have 2 JBL amplifiers in my 06 monte carlo one for the interanl speakers and one for the sub. The amplifier for the internal speakers (6*9) keeps pooping out....I have had to replace 5 times it gets real hot in a matter of 30 mins. I still have the factory radio and the shop that put up my system couldn't figure out what the problem was..Could u help me out?

You probably have a fried speaker or some shorted wiring going to one of your speakers.  Get a multimeter and test the resistance across the speaker leads for each speaker.  You should be getting at least 4 ohms of resistance across each circuit.  If you get any less (there is a little leeway for fluctuation, but I'd be concerned about anything less than 3.8), then you either had a fried speaker or some bad/shorted wiring.  If you find any speakers with too little resistance, test the speaker's leads itself by removing the speaker wire from it and testing its connectors.  If you're getting 4 ohms, you have a short in your wiring going to the speaker.  If you're getting less, the speaker's cone is shot and requires replacement.
