Car Stereos: Pontiac G5 GT sub and amp hook up, pontiac g5 gt, metal boxes

Question
I'm installing a new amp in my G5, the car came with a ten inch sub stock, i can't seem to find an amp in the car though or a wiring diagram n e where. So need to know if there is a factory amp or what wires run to my cd player. The whole car is stock.

Answer
Hi Derrick,

I haven't had the chance to work on a G5 yet, so I'm not entirely sure.  But it will almost certainly be in one of 3 places.

Being GM, the most likely location for the amp is behind the glove box mounted to the firewall.

If it's not there, check to see if it's mounted to the roof of the trunk.  Finally, under the front seats.  It'll be in one of those locations.  And they don't look quite like normal amps.  They're small metal boxes, but they usually have proprietary plugs that don't look anything like the terminals you'd see in an aftermarket amp.

Good luck,
Justin
