Car Stereos: car stereo, aftermarket stereo, rear speakers

Question
I bought an aftermarket stereo for my car and it worked fine for a few months. Now when I turn it on it flashes a protect sign. The rear speakers had blown before then so I disconnected them but it is still doing it. What else should I try?

Answer
Hi Ernest,

Protect means the deck has detected something wrong with a connection and is disabling itself from running to prevent damage.

Make sure that the speakers that are still hooked up are in good working order (test their leads to make sure they're still providing 4ohms of impedance)

If everything checks out, disconnect the power from the deck for 30 seconds or so, and plug it back in, as it may need to be reset to come out of protect mode.
