Auto Racing: WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT INDY CAR RACING, indy cars, type cars

I am a volunteer at another allexpert site (banrkuptcy, credit issues) but I don't know beans about car racing.  I am particularly interested in the Indy type cars (I don't even know if that is the same as the Formula One cars or races).  I used to watch the Indy cars back in the 60's when I was in high school (Parnelli Jones, etc.), but I don't know much about the modern day Indy car races, even though I am intersted in knowing more (are they called open wheel racers?).   I know there is a book called NASCAR for dummies, but I haven't seen one for the Indy cars.   Can you suggest a good source to learn about this sport quickly?  Thanks for your time and attention, even if you can't help.
