Auto Racing: cool cans, horsepower gains, drip water

Question
I want to know about the cool can!  I race super late models and would like to know if this would be something worth investing in.  How much horsepower could I gain and what great benefits are there to this product.  If I were to purchase such an item it would be the Super Cool Can from moroso.

thanks,

Answer
Hi Jessie:
A cool can is nothing more than a coil of fuel line inside a sealable container.  Before each run, you put ice inthe container, replace the lid and go racing, The idea is to make your incoming fuel more dense , which means you cram more of it into each cylinder.

I don't know about horsepower gains but you can contact Summit Racing through <www.summitracing.com> and look for the telephone number for their tech line, their tech guys are REAL good with stuff like that.

You should however, check your racing association's rules first, many of them don't allow their use, because they tend to drip water on the racing surface.  I race in SCCA and they are prohibited.

I know that cool cans are popular with drag racers, where the run time is seconds. I doubt if the ice would stay with you through say a 20 minute heat race.

I would bet that you would gain a lot more spending the same money on a book on handling, and work on your set up more. That's where the speed is.

Good luck
