Auto Racing: suspension, chevy camaro, strut assembly

Question
Dan,                                                  I have a 95 Chevy Camaro. It is a round track
dirt race car. My question is, do you have any advice on where to find coil over adjustable kit
to set ride height that will fit stock front strut
assembly. I also need springs with different rates
300, 350, 400 ect. I have to use stock struts, shocks, class rules. The car weight is 3500
lbs. 54% left side, 53.7%rear, 51.2%cross any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Answer
Hi Richard:

I'm going to refer you to a couple of suppliers that I use for miscellaneous stuff.  I don't have a lot of background with 'big iron' though I occasionally drive a tube frame Camaro (like a late model but a road racer)  But you are working with stock suspension components, and I know very little about them.

Try calling Jeg's High Performance at 1-800-345-4545 and tell them you need some tech advice.  I know they sell the coil over kits you're after, and the springs .  I think they'll have a couple of guys there that can help you with a base line set up that you can work from.

As far as dirt goes, it's all a mystery to me.  I know about the cushion, but ther simply aren't any dirt tracks around here. And again, I'm a road racer , so all our set-ups are symetrical-  50-50% front to rear, and 50-50% across. Some guys run a little cross weight to gain some bite in a critical corner, but in a road race it costs you somewhere else.

This I DO know- - -when you can upgrade your rear suspension, do NOT go for a four link- - -there are a dozen reasons a three link works better on a race car, especially if there's a lot of horsepower to consider.

That's about all I know - - -but I'd be happy to answer any other questions you might have.
