Auto Racing: F1, indianapolis grand prix, michael schumacher
QuestionWhy did Michael Schumacher have his pole position (and the rest of the grid) moved back at the Indianapolis Grand Prix in 2000?
AnswerHi Carol, thanks for the question.
They were concerened about the reduction in traction when crossing the line of bricks that are sunk into the track at the Indianapolis circuit (marking the days of yesteryear when the whole track was of bricks, hence the track being called "The Brickyard").
Traction at the start of an F1 race is very important and Schumi thought he would be disadvantaged as his car would have got away slower than those behind him.
