NASCAR Racing: Lug nuts and crew safety, lug nuts, crew safety

Question
When the car leaves the pit box, do the lug nuts that were taken off get kicked up and hit crew members? Do the lug nuts at times cause a puncture in the tire?

Hey Tim,

The tires are racing slicks so they are not really prone for puncture. They do sometimes get kicked up, but the crews wear the fire-retardant suits and they are thick. Plus the crews sweep the box after all the cars have left from that round of stops.
