NASCAR Racing: Anything real?, larry mcreynolds, corvette zr1

Question
QUESTION: Is there any part of a Nascar Ford, or Chevy, or Dodge, or Toyota that is
legitimately made by the car manufacturer?

ANSWER: Hey Byron,

Quite frankly, no. Nothing there is made by the manufacturer. They send the templates to the company to make the stuff, but by and large the individual teams make their own stuff. I think the company might send an obscure part...something small, but that was it. I saw it on a "trackside live" thing with Larry McReynolds. He had it in his hand and said that it was the only thing that they got from the company.

Hope this helped,

QUESTION: Coy, thanks for the response.  To pursue it just a little
further, after I sent my question to you, I 'poked' around
on the net for other information.  I read that Fords used
the 351 engine (that hasn't been produced for years), and
Dodges used the 340 engine (again, that hasn't been produced
since the 70s).  I'm not sure about Chevrolet.  Where do
these engines originate?  There also seemed to be some
indication that Chevrolet has for some time been building an
engine block specifically for racing, and that Ford just
recently came out with an F9 racing engine.  Am I reading
things correctly?

Answer
Hey,

I don't know about ford or dodge that much but a while back I do remember some show was saying that the "ZR1" engine was the one used in chevys. Its the same name as the one they put in a Corvette ZR1, but as far as performance, it may be different.
