NASCAR Racing: nascar racing trim, road speed limit, hi mike

Question
WE'VE HEARD THE TERM RACE TRIM OR RACING TRIM USED, BUT DON'T
UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT REALLY MEANS. ARE THERE SEVERAL TYPES OF TRIM?
AND IS THIS PURELY A NASCAR TERM?

Answer
Hi mike,

"Racing trim" is usually contrasted with "qualifying trim." When teams are at high risk for not making the race, they tape up the grill of the car to get more downforce.  They make other minor adjustments to get more speed out of the car for the 60 or so seconds of qualifying.

However, this trim is only a short term trim.  "Race trim" refers to the long term setup used by teams to keep the engine, oil, and brakes low temperature, so as not to use them up too fast.  Because at the end of a 40-lap run, you still want the brake pad to be cool enough to slow you down to the pit road speed limit.

I hope i was of some help, although this was a very brief synopsis.
