NASCAR Racing: lug nuts, lugnuts, circumference

Question
What type of threads are used on lug nuts and studs as they never seem to cross thread and always zap right on? In the real world we always start by hand and then zap with gun as to not cross thread. Thanks

Answer
The threads are not special although the overall stud is. The end of the stud continues for about an inch past the threaded part. This extra inch is not threaded and is smaller in circumference so when the lugnuts (which are glued to the wheel) are forced on with the tire they sit on the end of the non threaded part. The threads start at a slight taper to center the nut as it goes on.
