NASCAR Racing: Credentials, veteran fans, cheap seats

Question
I have been to several races where I have had credentials to be in the garage and pit area. How do credentials work? Does each team get so many and do they cost anything?

Answer
Hi Fred,

Credentials can be attained by anyone.  You probably work for a company who sponsors one of the cars in the race.  The track and NASCAR work together to set the number and price of the "pit passes" they sell.  The individual teams are each given a set number to distribute to team members who are not directly associated with the racing team.  Occasionally, companies will purchase some and give them to select employees as part of a promotion or an incentive to work harder.  They cost allot of money to an ordinary person because cheap seats in the stands run from $75-100 per person for a one-day ticket.  Veteran fans of racing know the garage area is where all the drivers are so they get these pit passes in order to talk to drivers and get their autographs.
I hope I answered your question.
