NASCAR Racing: NASCAR engine change, bootie barker, timing belt

Question
what is the record time for a NASCAR engine change

Answer
Hey Lucy,

They really don't keep track of this, but if an engine blew during the race, the teams would pack up and go home because it takes enough time to change the engine, if they have a spare one (most teams don't), that they would be last anyway.  This is only if the whole engine blows, if it is only a timing belt that came off, they would put another on and get back out, usually a lap down. I really do not know alot about the tech of this but I have heard from "Bootie" Barker, the crew chief of the 70, that they could assemble the engine if they pulled an all nighter at the race shop.  But they would not run it because it has not been tested or put through dyno yet.  But NASCAR doesn't keep track of this stat, although it would be nice to know.
Sorry that this is not a stat they keep track of.
