NASCAR Racing: engine, 1951 hudson hornet, cylinder engines

Question
I was told that 6 cylinder engines have never been used in NASCAR racing. But I
though some teams tried using them on short tracks like Bristol. Do you know and
if so can you give me web site that I can use to back me up? Thanks.

Answer
Yes, a 6 cylinder Plymouth won the first Southern 500 and Lee Petty almost won the championship driving a 6 cylinder. Website: http://www.allpar.com/ed/2003/ford.html

The mighty Hudson Hornet that won so many races in early 50's didn't even make a V-8. Website: http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/rearview-mirror-1951-hudson-hornet-cg...
