NASCAR Racing: HELP!, nascar pool, rush hour traffic

Question
I'm in a Nascar pool at work. We draw numbers 1 through 43 and that's our starting position. After qualifying we know which driver we have for the race BUT if a car has to go to the rear for any reason and the cars are moved up we now have the car that moved into our position.Such was the case Sunday with the Virginia 500. Harvick's car qualified 7th but had to go to the rear and others moved. I had 13th,Ricky Rudd,he mo0ved to 11th and Labonte moved to 13th. Correct? Thanks

Answer
That is correct. When the #29 goes to the rear every car in the inside moves 1 space forward meaning a jump in two positions; 9th to 7th, 11th to 9th, 13th to 11th, 15th to 13th, etc.
One of those little quirks of NASCAR. It would be too much for the outside car to move inside while the inside car moves outside and one spot forward. It would resemble rush hour traffic trying to cut to a favorite exit, or the parking lot emptying at a NASCAR race. Cars everywhere!
