BMW Repair: windshield, rear view mirror, bmw dealer

Question
Yesturday I was driving down the highway and hit a bump. Nothing major or anything but just as I hit it the rear view mirror broke off the windshield. It took a piece of glass with it as well. There does not appear to be any cracks on the outside of the windshield but the dealer said he's just going to glue it back in. Does this piece of glass out of the windshield decrease the intergrity of it??? Shouldn't the entire winshield be replaced. The car is still under warranty?
Will the warranty cover this???

Answer
I have a hard time picturing that the glued-on mirror came off with a piece of glass.  Are you sure it wasn't a matter of having some of the adhesive remaining on the glass?

I don't know what you have for a warrenty, or if it's covered.  If a BMW dealer says it can be fixed by gluing it back on, I'd tend to agree with him.

The bit about the integrity of the glass is true, but only in theoretical situations.  It's a marketing ploy by the window glass people.  Go with the dealer's recommendation.
