BMW Repair: camshaft position sensor, bmw 318ti, camshaft sensor

HI: I have a 98 BMW 318ti vin last 7 numbers (kc84994} with code 112 camshaft position sensor that needs your trouble shooting skills. I just replaced old with new sensor and same code comes back, what is my next step? Note using snap on scanner for codes. OK thanks steve

Most common fault is a defective camshaft sensor purchased from an after market source!

I agree with buying parts from them, but when it comes to sensors, original is best as they constantly "supersede" them.

Not the answer your looking for tho.

Next step is to check the wiring harness from the sensor to the control unit, sounds hard but not. 3 pins on the harness that should go straight to the designated pins on the control unit, I check for continuity while moving the harness around checking for a break in the harness.

Don't forget to clear the faults after replacement.
