BMW Repair: Instruments, bmw e39, bmw 5 series

Question
I bought a 1998 BMW 523i, after short drive, ABS light goes on and Speedometer dies, did a diagnostic, results are: O/S/R Speed sensor, Open circuits to 2nd Panel,N/S/R Speed sensor, Instrument Panel, Vehicle Speedo, crankshaft P. Sensor.
Someone told me to change the rear wheel sensor first. What would you suggest to do first.

Answer
Check for the correct signals at the abs control unit.

If they are correct,(and probably are) then visit ecutesting.com
BMW E39 ABS Pump Module ECU / Bosch 5.7 & 5.3

Fitted most commonly to the BMW 5 Series E39 this ABS module is a very common failure indeed. The problem usually starts as an intemittent fault and then becomes more permanent over time, it will normally display the ABS warning light on the dash and when the fault codes are read there will be fault codes that blame the wheel speed sensors (usually the rear right sensor) this may also cause you to lose the speedo completely.

Most Common Failing Part Numbers. 0265 223 001 & 0265 900 001

Send them YOUR unit as you wont need to have it coded back in.

Hope that helps
