BMW Repair: BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade, bmw maintenance, bmw dealer

Question
Six months ago I purchased a BMW pre-owned certified 2006 530XIT sport wagon with 46,800 miles and now have 49,000 mile on it.  I drive it seldom (400 miles a month).  Should I buy for $2,500-3,000. the BMW Maintenance Program Upgrqade (6 years/100,000 miles)or use a highly reputable garage specializing in BMWs when needed?  Also, would the BMW Maintenance Program add value to the car should I sell it in the next several years?  The BMW dealer recommends the Program but I'm skeptical.   Many, many thanks for your help.   Will

Answer
This question is a tough. You have owned it for 6 months, have you had any issues?I know your mileage is low.Being BMW certified I believe depends on the dealership that certifies the car,it is all paperwork. What does the program cover, would also be a question. They do have a way with words and you may have a large deductible or minimum coverage.I think also they are in error saying it will add to the value of the car.
I think, being an independent shop owner alot depends on the repair needed. It will be hard to find a garage that Specializes in only BMW's.I have a hard time many times myself. The dealership does help me out at times.I see alot of BMW's ranging from the 80's(which I love# to recent times. My experience has been my teacher for the most recent models#96-).What problems do I see, mostly electrical,heat%26a/c.That is why I would question the coverage of the program. It probably would cover driveline running gear.
Keeping the car on a regular maintenance program is a must.If you want it around for a while you have to keep it up.Regular oil changes, tire rotation, and under carriage inspection.Wether it is the dealership or an independent, quality is what the car deserves.
