Chevrolet Repair: 2002 GMC Safari, gmc safari, intake manifold

Question
My safari was VERY hard to crank, (wife ran it almost out of gas, I put in 4 gallons before starting work)after 2 days of trying I finally got it going, it ran really ruff, like it was on 4 or 5 cylinders, on a test run on Interstate it got better but not good, (during run it burned alot more gas than normal) when I got back I let it idle thinking possible bad gas, it then died and wont recrank, wont even turn over, like starter is bad, tried jumping it, no good, battery is good, (over 850 crank amps), nothing happens, I suspect solenoid? or maybe bad ground, I dont know, its really cold here and would like some advise before I start laying on the ground pulling parts off. there maybe more than one problem here, or it maybe something electrical, need some help please.. thanks

Answer
Hello Rusty,
If the starter is trying to turn it over, but it just won't rotate, I would remove the spark plugs and see if it is hydrostatically locked from gas in the cylinders.
Running the tank low could remotely possibly have caused some trash to get itno an injector, allowing a cylinder or so to flood real bad.
If it has the central port injection system, you could have a cracked or broken plastic line to an injection poppet valve broken, and that would dump gas into the intake manifold. Removing the top half, called the plenum would be the only way to see for sure.
