BMW Repair: cooling sytem problems, radiator cap, exhaust gases

Question
the other day I had a belt break on my 2000 328i this caused the car to overheat and my expansion tank cracked. i have since replaced the belt and the tank but I can't seem to get the air all out of the system because it seems to keep vapor locking and over heating. Please advise on how to properly bleed all the air out of the system so this problem stops.

Answer
Fill the radiator to the normal(or higher) level.  Open the vent by the radiator cap....a quarter works fine.  Run the engine until the air and foam coming out the vent turns to pure coolant (no foam or bubbles).  Tighten the vent screw.

Repeat again tomorrow.

As you may be worrying, there is a possibility that you blew a head gasket.  If bleeding doesn't work, I would recommend you take it and get an "exhaust gases in the coolant" test.  Not too likely.

Good luck.
